The Playstation 2(PS2) was the succesor of the number one console at that time : Playstation. The PS2 is also able to play DVD movies, but maybe this will be the new standard for all new consoles. Furthermore the PS2 is downwards compatible which allows us to play our favourite playstation 1 games. However this happens without graphical enhancements.

Compared to the dreamcast the Playstation 2 is more powerfull. But the dreamcast features double the size of VRAM (8mb). That's why a lot of dreamcast games look pretty impressive.
