After failing with the Wii U the introduction of the Switch brought Nintendo back. With the Switch you can 'switch' between handheld-mode and tv-mode with ease. In handheld mode you plug the joy-cons to the side and you can game on the go, or you can plug the switch in the docking station and use both joy-cons as individual controllers or use it with the included adapter to create one pro-like controller.

Nintendo's introduction of the Wii U didn't do Nintendo well and Nintendo financial situation between 2012-2016 declined. So the question was will the introduction of the Switch change all this? Yes it did, although for me it was a surprise, because in certain way it is an Wii U deluxe ;-)
