The XBOX was Microsoft's first attempt to dominate the console market. As Microsoft at that time was one of the richest companies worldwide, they had the opportunity to spend a lot of money on marketing. Despite all that money they couldn't win the race with Sony's PS2 and Nintendo's Gamecube. Although it's really a PC in disguised as a console it managed to create some kind of console-feeling. The XBOX is probably the most superior console compared to PS2 and Gamecube, but lack of unique games didn't give him the success. Many people disliked the XBOX from the beginning for disturbing the console market. But Mirco$oft doesn't care, they will try again to dominate the console market with the XBOX2.

This console was actually an unexpected addition to my collection. As a real console-freak I didn't liked the XBOX from the beginning. But after being convinced that the XBOX could in fact be used as one of the most advanced multimedia centers I bought one. Although you need the help of some non-Microsoft applications (XBMC, Evox Slayer, etc.) the XBOX can be converted into a top notch multimedia center which can play all kind of formats available at that time(mp3, wma, mod, s3m, divx, xvid, etc.) The XBOX is in fact a really cheap PC. Count in mind that Micro$oft has to sell their XBOX beyond cost-price because of the competition. So with this knowledge and the trick to remove Microsoft's protection you can turn a XBOX in a real PC running LINUX ;-)
